L' idrovia sta incrementando l' attività di trasporto fluviale di merci, i mezzi fluviali hanno delle caratteristiche particolari per il servizio che devono fare, ad esempio: devono essere bassi per passare sotto i ponti, devono essere attrezzati per spingere o trainare le chiatte, devono avere potenza sufficiente per risalire contro corrente, inoltre devono avere molta manovrabilità. Venezia come snodo fluviale è un punto strategico.

The waterway is increasing the activity of goods' river transport. Boats have specific characteristics for the service that they have to do, for example: they must be short to pass under the bridges, they must be equip to push or pull the barges, they must have adequate power to go back up against the tide. Moreover, they must have much manoeuvrability. Venice has a strategic position as river junction.
